San Francisco this weekend
The girls (Kelly, Anna, Daisy, Kim, Jessica, Lauren) and I are heading up in about an hour.
See you there.
San Francisco Critical Mass 08-05-30
On the last Friday of every month, bike riders all over the world congregate in their own cities in numbers sometimes in the thousands (depending on the city) to take over and claim the streets as their own.
Critical Mass: The minimum size or amount of something required to start or maintain a venture.
So basically we rode wherever we want, held up traffic wherever we wanted to and took control of the city of San Francico's public roads. We would ride into intersections and fill it with a couple hundred cyclists so cars couldn't move and continue doing this for the next few hours. There is no designated route. There are no officials (except the police officers that follow us making sure confrontations between drivers and riders don't happen and so we won't go on the freeway). Anyone can lead as long as they have riders willing to follow. Drivers get angry and there have been confrontations in the past. The ride began in San Francisco in 1992 but now extends to to European, Asian, South American, Australian and African cities. It is absolute chaos. There were many times I thought cyclist were going to get hit by cars. The sound of cars honking in frustration was endless. The sound of old school rap tunes bumping on someone's good enough for a club bicycle stereo was endless.
If you would like to find out more or find out where and when cyclists in your own city meet ride:
Does anyone remember when Chevron named one of its oil tankers the Condoleezza Rice?
I remember...
Good news for realz this time
"YONGBYON, North Korea - North Korea destroyed the most visible symbol of its nuclear weapons program Friday in a sign of its commitment to stop making plutonium for atomic bombs."
Here's one problem that I saw further down in the article:
"Experts believe the North has produced up to 110 pounds of weapons-grade plutonium, enough for as many as 10 nuclear bombs."
Taken from msn.com Click here for more

GOOD NEWS!
There are more than 800 wildfires burning in California at this moment and over 200 are still unattended! Also, there are more lightning storms to come (lightning is the culprit).
It's hard to swallow that sort of information and difficult to imagine the chaos going on.
Click on the Harry Potter lightning photograph to read the story.

Hey, your friend died in a drunk driving accident yesterday... Just kidding... By the way, don't drink and drive.
Students were told classmates had died in car wrecks — they hadn't
"OCEANSIDE, Calif. - On a Monday morning last month, highway patrol officers visited 20 classrooms at El Camino High School to announce some horrible news: Several students had been killed in car wrecks over the weekend.
Classmates wept. Some became hysterical.
A few hours and many tears later, though, the pain turned to fury when the teenagers learned that it was all a hoax — a scared-straight exercise designed by school officials to dramatize the consequences of drinking and driving."

How far is too far? I understand the need to educate youngsters especially on the issues of drinking and driving but I am not sure how I feel about this. Does the valuable lesson attempted to be taught outweigh the trauma? I feel like they were living by Malcolm X's quote "By Any Means Necessary" when they planned this. At my high school they did the Every 15 Minutes presentation, and as moving and powerful the fake drunk driving accident was, I remember going to a party that evening and seeing some of my classmates drink and drive. As strict and more clenching these DUI laws become, I still hear of drunk driving deaths. Sadly, it never seems to cease.

United Airlines to charge for checked bags
Following the trend of American Airlines, United Airlines will now begin charging $15 for the first checked bag and $25 for a second. I will not be surprised if I see other airlines following this unfortunate practice. Damn the rising prices of everything right now.
Rising Prices + Slowing Economy = Unhappy People

LOOKBOOK.nu
LOOKBOOK.nu is a neat website I found through a simple message on MySpace.com telling me about the "fashion project / website where stylish people all over the world share their daily outfits." What I enjoy most about the website is that the photographs and ensembles are of the users themselves contrary to trenderbender.com where users post photographs of ensembles collected from anywhere.
